Afternoon proceed for a guided city tour of Bikaner visiting Junagarh fort - built between by Raja Rai Singh, one of the trusted Rajputs general of the Akbar. The fort is formidable structure encircled by a moat and has some beautiful places within. These places made in red sandstone and marble, make a picturesque ensemble of courtyards, windows dotted all over the structure. It has 96-mt long walls, with 37 bastions and 2 entrances. It is situated on a 150m high hill. Rao Jodha, the then chief of Rathore clan, constructed it in 1459. There are a number of attractions within the fort like several palaces, galleries, a museum, temples and so on. Afternoon visit the Jaswant Thada, located half way up the interminably long road that climbs onwards to the fort, is the traditional cremation ground of the rulers of Jodhpur. Taking pride of place amongst the ornamental gardens and chattris is the fabulous white marble memorial to Jaswant Singh II, built in 1899. Visit the "Garden of Maidens" Sahelion-Ki-Bari", consisting of an ornamental pool with delicately carved chhatries of black and white marble and soft stone. This white beauty was built by Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, who died during a child birth. The construction took over 22 years in completing the monument and around 20000 workers worked day and night on it. Agra Fort also known as Red Fort was also built by Shah Jahan & has spent eight years of his life as a prisoner in this fort and use to spend his time just gazing at the magnificent view of Taj Mahal that could be seen from here.
